RME Appliance
Rapid Maxillary Expansion Appliance

When you ring the surgery to make your appointments the receptionist will –

• Confirm type of treatment you are proceeding with.
• Confirm cost of treatment and confirm your initial deposit which is required the day you commence your treatment.

Appointments will then be scheduled for –

Records
At this appointment we will take study models (impressions) of your teeth if we have not already taken them prior. We will also take some photographic records and then place separators between your teeth. This appointment will take approximately 15 minutes. We then need to see you in 1 week’s time.

Fit Molar Bands
At this appointment we will remove the separators if they have not already fallen out. We need to try in molar bands to get the correct size that fits around your tooth like a jacket. Once we have selected the correct molar band size we then take an impression (mould) of your teeth with the molar bands in place so our orthodontic technician can construct a tailor made appliance for you. This appointment will take approximately 15 minutes. An appointment is then scheduled for 2 weeks time.

Appliance Insert
At this appointment we cement the RME into position in the mouth. We use glue which unfortunately does not taste so good - but luckily we let you rinse out! This appointment will take approximately 15 minutes. The doctor will then inform the receptionist when you are required to come back for a follow up appointment.
