When
you ring the surgery to make your appointments the receptionist
will-
• Confirm type of treatment you are proceeding
with.
• Confirm cost of treatment and confirm your initial
deposit which is required the day you commence your
treatment.
• Check to see if you require any extractions
or exposures of teeth prior to commencement of your
orthodontic treatment.
• If you need to have extractions or exposures
we will need to make your appointments in advance allowing
enough time for you to call your dentist and arrange
an appointment for your extractions / exposures and
also to allow adequate time for healing (approximately
2 weeks).
• If an extraction note for your dentist is required
we can either arrange to send it along with your X-Ray
directly to your dentist or to you (we will check which
option is more convenient). However if you wish to have
it sent to you – you will need to remember to
take it to your dentist or otherwise they will be unable
to remove the teeth.
Appointments will then be scheduled for -
Records
At this appointment we will take study models (impressions)
of your teeth if we have not already taken them prior.
We will also take some photographic records and then
place separators between your teeth. This appointment
will take approximately 15 minutes. We then need to
see you in 1 week’s time to fit the braces.
Fixed Appliances (Braces)
At this appointment we will remove the separators if
they have not already fallen out. We will then clean
your teeth and then glue the braces in place. This appointment
will take approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour. After
the braces are fitted the doctor will see you at 4 –
6 week intervals. Initially appointments can be hard
to get as patients book ahead of time.
Appointments are only made for the current month plus
2 months ahead of time. As you can imagine every patient
would like to come before or after school but this is
not possible. The doctor has set time for certain procedures.
Once braces are fitted we endeavour to make you before
and after school appointments if possible. Never leave
without making a follow up appointment.
