Appointment
sequence for CBJ Appliance
1. Separators - 15 minutes.
At this appointment we place separating bands (look
like mini blue rubber bands) between the back teeth
to space them apart. Normally the back teeth are wedged
together and we need to space them in order to fit the
metal molar bands around these teeth. These separators
are generally left in place for 5 – 7 days. Without
the use of separators it is impossible to fit crown
forms or metal molar bands at the next appointment.
2. 1 week later Fitting of Bands / Crown Forms
- 30 minutes.
The separators are removed, leaving spaces between the
molar teeth. Crown forms or metal molar bands are fitted
over the tooth snugly and an impression of the teeth
is taken. The impression is removed as are the crown
forms or metal molar bands and the separators are placed
back into the mouth to retain the space already made.
We then use this impression with the bands placed in
it, to construct the appliance.
3. 2 weeks after the 2nd appointment Insertion
of the Upper Appliance - 30 minutes.
The separators are removed from the upper teeth and
the appliance, which has been constructed, is then inserted.
The appliance is then cemented into place with dental
cement to secure it is in position. Instructions are
then given on how to adjust the appliance.
4. 3 weeks after the 3rd appointment.
An appointment to check how the expansion is going -

5. 3 weeks after the 4th appointment.

6. Separators - 15 minutes - 1 week after the
5th appointment.

the appliance, which has been constructed, is then inserted.

of the appliance, to posture the lower jaw forward,
as it was designed.
